What Is Mattress Disposal?
Mattress disposal in Toronto routes every mattress and box spring to Ontario-certified mattress recycling processors - not landfill. At the facility, polyurethane foam is shredded for carpet underlay, steel spring coils are sent to metal scrap processors, and fabric is separated for industrial fibre recovery - diverting approximately 90% of the mattress by weight. A WSIB-compliant two-person crew handles bag-and-carry from any floor, including condo elevator coordination.
Roughly 95% of a mattress by weight is recoverable. The foam can be shredded for carpet underlay, the innerspring coils are scrap steel, the textiles can be shredded, and box spring frames are timber. None of that happens if the mattress goes into a compactor. Common Problems We Solve
The New Bed Is Being Delivered
Most retailers either will not take the old set or charge a fee that is higher than ours. We schedule around your delivery so the room is clear before the new mattress arrives.
It Will Not Go Down The Stairs Cleanly
King mattresses and older sprung sets do not flex the way a foam mattress does. Two people, one at each end, going down a turn is the difference between a clean exit and a scuffed stairwell.
Bed Bug Concerns
This is more common than people expect and nothing to be embarrassed about. The correct approach is to seal the mattress in an encasement bag inside the bedroom before it moves, which is exactly what we do. Sealed units go to disposal rather than recycling or donation.
Apartment And Condo Buildings
Many buildings have no curbside collection at all and explicitly prohibit mattresses in the garbage room. Booking a pickup with dock and elevator coordination is the only clean route out.
